We just finished our second week and Maggie has been doing some great things! She’s starting to really “get” how to sit up on her own- bring her head forward, in front of her hands and pushing up from her arms- and is able to do it just a little easier this week than last. We can tell her abdominal muscles are getting strong! She just may be the only 4 year old with a six-pack. 🙂
Basically everything is improving, she’s just a little better this week than last and all the weeks before that- slow, steady progress. Overall she’s more stable so her movements are slowing down and therefore become smoother. Her stability is attributed mostly to her increased trunk control which is resulting in the improved sitting, passing the ball, transitions and standing. Maggie is opening her right hand more and is really starting to bear weight through her open left hand during movements like standing up. Yesterday Natan had Maggie bring the spiky ball to her mouth while sitting up- when she did that successfully a couple times, he ran and grabbed a coffee cup then a spoon after that. She did a pretty good job with both of these! We’ve worked on self-feeding off and on over the years but I really think her trunk is stable enough now that we may be successful! This could be her next big milestone accomplishment and would make a world of difference for her and me!!
It looks like she’s falling here, but she’s actually not- yet. We’re working on her bearing weight through both legs. Currently she’s trying to stand on just one side, so she’s leaning to the left here.
